Lexington Police Department Divisions
The Lexington Police Department is structured into multiple specialized divisions, each playing a vital role in public safety, law enforcement operations, and community service. These divisions are the backbone of our agency's mission to "Set. The. Standard."
Patrol Division
The foundation of daily police operations. Patrol units respond to 911 calls, conduct proactive policing, enforce laws, and maintain a visible presence across Lexington. All officers begin their careers here, gaining frontline experience and building community trust.
Traffic Safety Officers (TSO)
Dedicated to traffic enforcement and roadway safety. TSO handles DUI checkpoints, speed enforcement, reckless driving, and motor vehicle violations to reduce collisions and protect drivers.
Emergency Response Unit (ERU)
Our tactical response team for critical incidents such as barricaded suspects, hostage situations, and active threats. ERU operates with precision and coordination in high-risk scenarios.
Criminal Investigations Unit (CIU)
Conducts deep investigative work on felonies including armed robbery, homicide, and organized crime. CIU gathers evidence, builds cases, and collaborates with outside agencies.
Internal Affairs Unit (IAU)
Ensures department integrity by investigating misconduct, use-of-force incidents, and internal complaints. IAU upholds transparency, accountability, and professionalism.
Training Division (TD)
Oversees the education and development of cadets and sworn personnel. TD manages field training, in-service classes, and policy instruction to uphold performance standards.
Pursuit Intervention Team (PIT)
A precision-based unit that handles vehicle pursuits using coordinated tactics and vehicle intervention techniques. PIT ensures pursuits are resolved safely and strategically.
